Wollongong's surfing culture, together with the Mann-Tatlow Collection of Asian Art, have provided inspiration for Gerry Wedd's latest exhibition Chinese Whispers at Wollongong City Gallery.
Wedd, a South Australian State surfboard riding champion and designer for surf and streetwear label Mambo, has spent many holidays surfing the South Coast. Dragon Chase Urn, in the shape of a Chinese Meiping jar from the gallery's collection, is decorated with images of surfing identities.Wedd borrows from the past, using traditional ceramic glazes and decorating techniques, to explore contemporary themes such as beach culture, music, and environmental issues. Chinese Whispers continues until May 20.
